A Spring Garden-Inspired Tasting at Board of Trade New Orleans
For a recent tasting at Board of Trade in New Orleans, we designed the room around a spring and summer palette of soft neutrals, blush pink, peach and fresh chartreuse green.
The goal was to make the florals feel as though they were growing throughout the space rather than simply placed within it. Loose garden flowers, trailing greenery and flowering branches brought movement to the room, while soft patterned linens, warm wood and touches of green kept everything relaxed and layered.
Bringing the Garden Overhead
The largest floral moment was suspended above the bar. Rather than creating something overly structured, we kept the installation loose and organic, with flowers appearing to move through layers of greenery.
The height of the Board of Trade room gives us the opportunity to work on a much larger scale, and bringing flowers overhead helped connect the architecture to everything happening below.
Flowers Growing Through the Room
We carried that same garden feeling onto the windowsills, where flowers and greenery spilled along the architecture. Roses, delicate seasonal flowers and fresh green elements were arranged at different heights, with vines allowed to trail naturally below.
Nothing was meant to feel too perfect. The variation in shape and scale is what gives garden-style floral design its sense of movement and whimsy.
A Softer Approach to the Tables
On the tables, we brought the scale down without losing the looseness of the overall design. Low centerpieces were mixed with individual stems in bud vases, allowing each flower to have its own moment.
Soft pink and peach flowers were balanced by creamy whites and brighter chartreuse greens. The patterned linens added another subtle botanical layer without competing with the flowers.
The finished tablescape layered flowers with green glassware, clear candlelight and natural wood. Large garden urns on pedestals created height behind the table, while the smaller floral moments kept the setting intimate.
We love using different scales of flowers within the same room. A centerpiece does not have to carry the entire design when flowers are also appearing overhead, along windows and in larger statement pieces nearby.
A Little Whimsy
The oversized urn arrangements were intentionally a little unruly. Branching stems and chartreuse flowers reached beyond the traditional outline of an arrangement, giving them the feeling of something freshly gathered from a garden.
That bit of imperfection is often our favorite part.
From the Entrance In
The garden began before guests ever entered the room. Flowers climbed both sides of the entrance steps in the same palette used inside, creating a first glimpse of what was waiting beyond the doors.
For us, the most memorable event florals are not a collection of individual arrangements. They create an atmosphere. From the entrance to the windowsills, tables, pedestals and flowers suspended overhead, every piece of this design was intended to feel like part of the same slightly wild spring garden.
